1628 John Endecott founds Puritan settlement in what is now Salem

1643 Puritan colonies form New England Confederation to oppose Dutch and Indian attacks.
1675-1675 King Phillip’s War
--Is believed that John Endecott led “brutal expedition against Indians in retribution for their killing of a colonial trader” (Salem Focus)
- Problems arose between the Colonists and the Natives
- “Wamsutta's brother Metacom (King Philip) became leader and ultimately led his people into war to preserve their traditional way of life.”
1692 Witchcraft trials begin in Salem
-1641 English law makes Witchcraft a capital crime
- Religion based upon evil spirits
